Biography

Nobody in the world does art like Doug Flückiger. Virtually all talented graphite artists worldwide have chosen to replicate the human form, but Doug depicts the natural world with precision and stunning attention to detail. His drawings can be large, up to 48”x96” in size, the size of a small car, honoring the magnificent mountainscapes he explores.  Like many artists, Doug Flückiger has been drawing since he could hold a pencil; but he received little formal training: He had exactly one drawing class in college and for many years concentrated on his career as a graphic and interface designer. But the mountainous beauty of his home reawoke his interest in art, and for the two decades he has been seriously pursuing this unique and amenable art form. His work is influenced by Paul Callé, Robert Bateman, Andrew Wyeth, and Ansel Adams. But his strongest influence is still nature herself: snowfall, fog and mist, mornings and evenings, clouds and peaks, light and stone and water.   Doug graduated cum laude from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California; and design informs all his work. His background principles are always present, and combine to make a satisfying composition through which the soul of nature whispers.
